The article describes a Masters in Science Education course. Students use published scientific data to link daily life, human impact, and sustainability to ecological function which they access from The American Museum of Natural History (NY) website. Students are required to read and interpret published scientific research and explain how the data are used to make conclusions. Analyzing the data is essential to students' understanding of the scientific process and their ability to evaluate the subsequent propositions and conclusions. Students then have to make data accessible and understandable to younger learners by designing lesson plans. I really liked this article and the fact that reading and interpreting actual scientific research is the focus of the course.
