In this article, it explains how the teachers would first ask a major question to introduce a unit which builds upon students' prior knowledge. It shows that students can build models and used everyday science talk to come up with solutions to a major problem. This also shows basic vocabulary development that all the students will learn at the same time so no one is behind. Starting off with teacher snot writing science objectives of fact but as questions that need answers, helps all students to think more critical. The 5R model thoroughly explains the process of using a strategy using 5 different features used to teach throughout a science unit, reveal, replace, reposition, repeat, and reload. First, the teacher reveals new vocabulary, then they replace the everyday science talk into this vocabulary. The students learn to reposition the new word to fit it into their science talk or put it into a science context. Repeating these words and modeling them for the students helps them understand them better. Using these new words to "reload" the lesson the next day is important so the students can pick up where they previously left off in the unit the day before. This 5R model is a way to help ELL develop science inquiry skills as well as having language development skills. This can help students learn to communicate better throughout the lesson, although it must be appropriate for grade level and setting.
