This article describes the High-Adventure Science curriculum unit called “Is There Life in Space?” that can be found at the website for the Concord Consortium. This high school activity starts with understanding how to detect a planet by looking for its motion. Motion can be detected by variances in star brightness and students learn this and so much more by analyzing data. There are also assessments embedded into this curriculum which would be excellent for an astronomy class or for an AP physics class.
