A New Way of Thinking About STEM

by: Milton Huling and Jackie Speake Dwyer

Chapters 5 and 6 are included in this book selection. Chapter 5 focuses on StEMT, our way of making sense of STEM as a process. We are not out to challenge the acronym but when you see this term, it is to guide you to a new way of thinking about STEM as an instructional approach. StEMTifying a lesson is easy and can be as simple as changing or adding a question and inserting an engineering design challenge into the 5E lesson. Chapter 6 focuses on the correlation to a Framework for K-12 Science Education. The simple reframing of how we think about STEM provides us with the tools to take the nebulous concept of STEM and transform it into a conceptual framework. Teacher background information, standards, safety notes, and references are included. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About The Authors, About Our Approach, Connection to Standards, Conclusion, Appendix A, and Index.
