Itsy, Bitsy Spiders

by: Milton Huling and Jackie Speake Dwyer

This chapter features Life sciences StEMT lessons. With climate change as front-page news, this lesson seems very appropriate. The Explore part has students doing research, which can be very empowering. Provided here is a basic format for the share-out of student research, but there are many creative ways to provide other options for this portion. There are also simulations that can be used to demonstrate how animals of different colors are affected by changes in their environment. The engineering design challenge is a lot of fun and provides an opportunity to discuss the guiding questions as students create their design. A list of materials, teacher background information, standards, safety notes, assessment, and references are included. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About The Authors, About Our Approach, Connection to Standards, Conclusion, Appendix A, and Index.
