This chapter discusses genetic diversity of food plants in the context of the geographic regions from which they originate. The center of origin is the site where the plant was domesticated. The center of diversity is the site where maximum genetic diversity is found. Students create graphs from data in tables and use the graphs to understand which biomes have been the most important sources for annual and perennial plants and why. They also use tables and maps to locate the geographic origins of food plants.
