Scientists and Engineers Are PERSUASIVE (Grades 3–5)

by: Donna Farland-Smith and Julie Thomas

In this lesson, students learn that scientists and engineers are persuasive. They read about environmentalist Rachel Carson in the book Rachel Carson and Her Book That Changed the World. After reading, students engage in the scientific process of constructing and designing solutions as they make a video journal about lifestyle choices that can reduce an individual’s environmental impact on Earth. This selection highlights the practice of obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information and it includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, and Index.
