Hair Dryer Helper

by: Jodi Wheeler-Toppen

In this chapter, students are asked to consider public policy decisions as they relate to energy usage. For this activity, students will serve as consumer advocates to evaluate and rate hair dryers. In the process, they will observe that hair dryers can vary greatly in how much energy they use. They will also consider how to write and evaluate persuasive pieces. The reading strategy featured here is “evaluating persuasive science writing.” A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Acknowledgments, About the Author, Image Credits, and Index.
