Mountain Mayhem

by: Jodi Wheeler-Toppen

This lesson is designed to introduce students to the key ideas and vocabulary associated with erosion. Students will see erosion at work in a simulation and try out some different ways to lessen the effect. Then they will read about the three main agents of erosion. Students often see erosion as an entirely destructive force, so one goal of this lesson is to help them see that the processes of erosion and deposition lead to both breaking down and building up and are, in themselves, neither good nor bad. The reading strategy introduced here is “finding the meaning of new words.” A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Acknowledgments, About the Author, Image Credits, and Index.
