Reconstructing the Past

by: Jodi Wheeler-Toppen

This chapter has two main goals. The first is to ease students into the reading procedures by featuring two reading passages. One allows students to practice using codes to record what they are thinking as they read and the other one lets students practice the group reading process. The second goal is to introduce students to the idea that one research technique in Earth science is to learn about the past by looking at how things work in the present. Reading passages are provided for this goal as well. A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Acknowledgments, About the Author, Image Credits, and Index.
