SCAMPERing Into Engineering!

by: Jenny Sue Flannagan and Margaret Sawyer
edited by: Linda Froschauer

A “Snapshot of Science” Program brings science and engineering into the library. The lesson described here is part of what we like to call a “Snapshots of Science” program. These mini-lessons of science are taught once a week to all students in the school library. They provide students with an opportunity to do even more hands-on activities that are different from the ones done in their classroom. The snapshot lesson SCAMPERing Into Engineering was designed around the fourth-grade curriculum unit Forces and Motion. What started as a simple way to introduce students to engineering turned into so much more and students even started talking about the SCAMPER tool in their classrooms. With just one simple lesson in a library, learning had more meaning than ever imagined! A materials list, teacher background information, assessments, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Introduction, References, and Index.
