What is the Inside of Earth Like?

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about Earth’s structure. The probe is designed to find out if students recognize Earth’s interior is made up of layers and is mostly solid. It is best used with grades 6–12. Ask students to imagine they could cut Earth in half with a knife, and to draw what they would expect the inside to look like and label and describe the layers A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
