What Is a Watershed?

by: Page Keeley and Laura Tucker

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about watersheds. A watershed is an area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place. They come in all shapes and sizes and include both developed and undeveloped land areas. This probe is best used with grades 5–12 and is designed to find out what students think a watershed is. The probe can be extended by using the annotated drawing formative assessment classroom technique. A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
