I thought that this article is a great tool to use when encouraging within the classroom student-generated questioning. One quote that stood out to me the most within the article was, "children are born investigators." This stood out to me because it shows that students are more than likely going to question almost every portion of a lesson they are learning. When encouraging student-generated questions it is important for students to know their questions are reasonable. As the teacher, you need to create a basis for the students to go off of when participating in student-generated questions. Providing students the correct amount of time to ask questions is a huge part of instruction. Discussing the problem as a whole class will help the students to create a strong idea on what is required of them.

This article provides useful information on how giving students time to ask questions before introducing the performance task will generate more discussion about the topic. Instead of teacher-created questions, have students think of questions that help them develop skills that align with scientists and engineers. Once the class has an opportunity to discuss their questions and compare their results. Saving this in my library to remember as a future teacher on how to engage in a student-generated science lesson.

I believe this article is useful for science teachers. The author discusses capitalizing on children's natural curiosity and questioning nature. The author states, "the goal of this article is to consider ways teachers can highlight the practice of asking questions and defining problems within grades 3–5 by making minor adjustments to lessons that have a big impact on encouraging question development." Essentially, the article provides useful tools and specific strategies for teacher to use. I like that the article provides a model of how to implement the questioning strategies using natural disasters. Many articles lack the connection between theory and practice but this article gives a model/example. These strategies can be applied into the classroom by simply adjusting parts of the lesson plan. I believe this type of instruction will become "second-nature" for many teachers who will or already do implement these strategies. These 2 tips can also be adjusted to meet many standards across the curriculum with minor adjustments.
