Do They Have the Same Properties?

by: Page Keeley and Susan Cooper

This assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about microscopic and macroscopic properties of matter and is designed to find out if students attribute the same properties of a substance to the particles that make up the substance. The probe is best used with students in grades 6–12. The formative assessment classroom technique (FACT) lines of agreement can be used with this probe to support the scientific practice of argumentation. The probe is provided in English and Spanish. A materials list, teacher notes, standards, assessment, and references are provided. This book selection also includes the Table of Contents, Preface, Acknowledgments, Dedication, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
