Are They Talking About Climate or Weather?

The purpose of this assessment probe is to elicit students’ ideas about climate. The probe is designed to find out whether students distinguish between weather and climate. It is important that students understand that they are to select statements that best describe climate or weather. The students’ explanation should reveal whether they recognize weather and climate as two different concepts. This probe is best used with grades 6–12, and can be used with the card sort formative assessment classroom technique. A materials list, teacher background information, references, assessment, and outcomes are provided. This book selection includes the Table of Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgments, About the Authors, Introduction, and Index.
